The mix consists solely of beech, hornbeam, and oak, the most calorific species for firewood. One stere of artificially dried wood is equivalent to 1.3 steres of semi-dry wood in terms of heat output. The volume of one stere of stacked wood at 33cm is 0.7m³. When the wood is cut to a length of 25cm, the volume of one stere is 0.6m³, and when cut to a length of 50cm, the volume of one stere is 0.8m³. The shorter the firewood is cut, the better it stacks, with fewer gaps between the logs. The apparent volume decreases, but the quantity of wood remains the same.
